Investigation of machining characteristics during micro-hole fabrication in CFRP composite by ECDM process

Abstract Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites have gained significant popularity in the field of aerospace, automotive, electronic, and sports due to its versatile properties. Although, fabrication micro-holes CFRP composite is troublesome by conventional processes because anisotropic abrasive behaviour. To overcome this difficulty, recently, an unconventional hybrid process such as electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) extensively used machine types materials. This paper highlights experimental statistical analysis machined which was fabricated using ECDM process. The experimentation performed according Taguchi’s L 9 orthogonal array. input parameters were (a) voltage, (b) tool rotation, (c) travel rate, (d) duty cycle, each at three levels. Hole overcut taper measured output responses. TOPSIS-Entropy based multi-response optimization technique applied optimize chosen parameters. hole analysed SEM images. parametric combination 50 V, 360 RPM, 0.5 mm min −1 , 60% resulted minimum 227 μ m 72 m, respectively. morphology exhibited better surface characteristics a high rate low cycle. Tool wear terms lateral flank observed during voltage From TOPSIS Entropy analysis, optimal condition for both found 60%.
